Why ‘Good’ Friday?
A good person who has done only good things in his life was killed by a group of jealous people. It should be ideally called a sad day, right? But still, people call it as ‘Good Friday’. Why? What is so good about that? You might have asked these questions. Yes, there is a reason behind that. In this article we will see why is good Friday called “Good Friday”?
What happened on Good Friday?
Good Friday is remembered as the day of the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, who was the Son of God. According to the Bible, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, and his death atoned for the sins of humanity, paving the way for salvation and eternal life for all who believe in him. It is usually followed by Easter Sunday, which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is also known as “Holy Friday” or “Great Friday”.
The death of Jesus Christ was not an accidental death. There was a purpose in that death. He was born to die. He died to solve the biggest problem which humanity has ever faced–the problem of sin.
Seems interesting, right? How could the death of Jesus Christ solve the problem of sin? It is an exciting story. It is the story of true love and A story that unfolds the greatness of God’s love towards humanity.
The reason behind Good Friday
Bible reveals about an all-powerful God who considers holiness as his most important virtue. He is a righteous God who hates sin. He does not tolerate injustice and he will never allow sinners to walk free. “The wages of sin is death”, that is the policy of the Holy God. At the same time, He is a compassionate God, who loves sinners. He doesn’t want men to die because of their sins. He wants them to enjoy perfect peace and eternal life. How does it possible? Can these two contradicting demands ever be fulfilled? There is only one option. A sinless person must be
ar the punishment of the sin, so that man who is pleaded guilty before God can walk free. But is there anyone righteous? No! “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Bible-Romans 3:23).
There is no one meeting God’s standard. Disappointing, right? But God, who is rich in mercy in his deep love towards sinful man, made a unique plan. That is nothing but God himself comes to this earth in human form and takes the punishment for the sins of the entire world upon himself.
