Love and Relationship – the Common Percept
I don’t know if it’s just me or that whenever we hear the terms ‘Love’ and ‘relationship’, we often associate it with the relationship that exists between a couple. This could probably be attributed to the way society views this to be the most important relationship, thus making it two interchangeable terms.
But the fact of the matter is that a relationship is basically a connection between any two people. A connection between a parent and child, a teacher and student & two friends, etc.- these are few examples of the same.
The similarities, likes, expectations and also the tolerance towards one another can be seen to form the framework for any relationship.
The Love Factor
Relationships are not without its own discomforts. But at the end of the day, we still choose to continue that relationship because of one common factor-LOVE.
The love between a father/mother and child continues to exist, no matter what mistake the child does or the kind of punishment that is given. A teacher continues to help and guide her student in spite of the low marks he gets or the ruckus he creates in class. Friends wish to maintain their connection between themselves in spite of an argument or disagreement.
See, how simple it is? Love forms the basis of all kinds of relationships. We choose relationships based on the love we think we gain and can give to the one on the receiving end of the same. Love is the binding factor in any relationship and true love sustains it.
The (Heavenly) Father Who Loves Everyone
I want to take this moment to introduce another kind of father-child relationship, the kind that exists between the Living God and His child.
Contrary to popular belief, God isn’t only a mighty and powerful God. He is a loving God. Bible says: ‘… God is Love’ (1 John 4: 16). It doesn’t say God loved , God loves or God will love. It says God is love. Isn’t this quite a remarkable statement?
The God of the whole universe, the God who created you and me, is a God who is love. He loves us with an everlasting love. He wishes us to be in a loving relationship with Him. An open communicative relationship just like any earthly relationship-where we speak and He listens & where He speaks and we listen.
But there’s an exceptional characteristic of this living relationship between God and His child: He will always be there for you.
Bible says: ‘…because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”’ (Hebrews 13: 5)
This is the everlasting love of God. Unlike earthly relationships, where people may commit but may not be able to help us out, God says that no matter what, He will be there for us. To comfort us, to guide us , to protect us.
To be in this loving relationship with this loving God, you only need to accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour. Bible again says, says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Earthly, human relationships are temporary with limitations of its own. The relationship with our heavenly Father, on the contrary, is eternal-bound by the cord of love.
Are you willing to be in this loving relationship with Him from today?
