Certainty in uncertain times

uncertainity

The world is going through a pandemic (i.e Covid-19) of unheard proportions. The pandemic had its origin in China, but it spread so rapidly that it brought the whole world to a standstill. Developed, developing and underdeveloped nations alike have been affected by it. None have been spared. Along with the ever-growing figures of people affected and those that have lost their lives due to this pandemic, we also see an issue of equal proportions growing in the hearts of people around the globe-the dilemma of ‘Uncertainty’.

There is a big question mark in everybody’s minds as to when this pandemic will end? When can we see the world return back to its old self? Will the world be the same as it has been thus far? When it comes to common people, the question mark becomes much more personal. Will we survive this pandemic? Will the elderly people in our family survive it? With economic activity around the globe coming to a grinding halt, will we remain with jobs when the impact of this pandemic is fully known? For those who have graduated from schools and colleges, questions remain as to whether they will ever be able to find jobs and livelihoods for themselves?

As we ponder the above questions that are underlying in each one of our hearts, we are unable to find any answers to these questions. Yes, we are in uncertain times. As we find our livelihoods, loved ones and our own lives threatened, the question that remains to be answered is, whether we can find certainty in anything in these uncertain times? The answer is, ‘Yes’ there is!

As we read the Bible, a verse that catches our attention is in Hebrews 13:5 which says, “…For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” When the Lord God says, that He will never leave us, its implications are very deep. No matter what the situation is in our lives. Even if our job prospects look bleak, even if the health and existence of our own selves and our loved ones look uncertain, there is one thing that we can look forward with certainty. It is in the unchanging word of God that says that He will never leave us nor forsake us. If we trust and believe in God, we can find great certainty amidst uncertainty.

The Bible says in John 3:16, that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life’. The question is, have we put our faith in the unchanging love of God through His Son Jesus Christ, which will further enable us to hold on to His promise in these uncertain times-that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Each one of the readers of this small article is encouraged to put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Thus, being certain of their standing in Christ, no matter what the future holds for us.
